'The Flash' Comic-Con Updates: Season 2 Adds Original Speedster Jay Garrick Plus Wally West

A lot of surprises were dropped during the CW's panel at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend for the upcoming second season of the hit superhero TV drama series "The Flash."

For one, there's the announcement of a new character coming over to Central City. Although it was clearly hinted during the finale moments of the show's freshman run, it is now confirmed that original speedster Jay Garrick will arrive to team up with the S.T.A.R. Labs people.

As revealed by the network during the event, Jay Garrick is "mysterious figure who arrives in Central City to warn Barry Allen [Grant Gustin] and his team of an impending danger that he alone cannot hope to stop."

The character will be played by actor Teddy Sears who appeared on several occasions for "Masters of Sex" and "Raising the Bar."

"Having Jay Garrick come onto the show was one of our earliest ideas," executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said in a statement (via IGN). "It is so exciting, as we rush into season two, that we finally get to bring the Crimson Comet to life. We couldn't imagine anyone more suited to play the original Flash than Teddy."

Furthermore, the long-rumored Wally West will also be coming over to the show. The news was later confirmed by the writers on the show's official Twitter page.

"Fans at @Comic_Con, did @AJKreisberg just say Wally West?!?!?!? #yeeeeaah #SDCC15," the post reads.

Meanwhile, Patty Spivot, who was previously reported as Barry's new love interest, has now found its role player. According to the cabler, Shantel VanSanten of "The Messengers" has joined the cast.

"Patty is obsessed with metahumans and partners with Det. Joe West this season but has no idea that her new crush is The Flash," the CW said in a statement regarding the character.

"The Flash" returns to The CW for its sophomore season on October 6.
