'The Leftovers' News, Update: Showrunner Damon Lindelof Speaks About Changes Coming On Season 2

Change is expected to come in the second season of HBO's hit drama TV series "The Leftovers" as what the new promo materials released by the network suggested.

The second trailer, which came out last week, basically echoes back to the first full-length teaser unveiled last month. This time, the reel highlights leading man Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux), Nora Durst (Carrie Coon), his daughter and a baby making their way to a small town in Texas which, as revealed, was spared from the mysterious rapture event that took down more than two percent of the world's population.

In the video, a preacher was heard saying, "We are 9,261, we are spared." The couple seems comforted with the thought and are now ready to "begin again." But scenes cut to show Erika (Regina King) standing up and telling everyone that apparently, "we're not safe! We are not spared!"

Chaos ensues and the people of Jarden are now facing the same fate Kevin and his folks encountered back in New York on Season 1.

Sounds like it's all over again for the show's main characters but executive producer Damon Lindelof said, during an interview with Entertainment Weekly that there will be some changes. The EP particularly pointed out that there won't be any presence of the Guilty Remnants. Being such that Jarden "has certain rules that prohibit" the said cult. He did, however, clarified that GR is still present in Season 2 but they haven't "found their way into Jarden yet."

A lot of intense development is also expected with the storylines connected with the new characters. King's character, for example, will "get to know the Garveys and become intimately entwined with them" as the season progresses.

Probing further into the central mystery of the series, Lindelof admitted to EW that like the characters within the show, he himself, and the writers, still don't have any explanations about the Departure. The goal, as it turns out is to present the stories of those who missed their loved ones and let the people, both from "lunatics walking down the street to researcher at MIT," to figure out the reason behind it.

"The show is interested in continuing to play with that idea, which is: Can you affix meaning to things that have no meaning? Just for the sake of meaning's sake?" he said (via EW).

"The Leftovers" Season 2 premieres October 4 at 9/8c on HBO.
