'The Originals' Season 4, Episode 1: Marcel To Be Dethroned as King of New Orleans?

Marcel's (Charles Michael Davis) hold on the throne will be tested in the upcoming season premiere of "The Originals."

In the episode titled "Gather Up the Killers," the synopsis reveals that the king of New Orleans will encounter new enemies who will do their best to oust him from his position. Five years have already passed since Marcel defeated Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and took over the city. He has made a lot of changes in that span of time. For example, Marcel has started to allow unsired vampires to enter and live in New Orleans, something that Klaus never did. He will soon realize that he has committed a huge mistake.

Marcel will find out that the visitors have a hidden agenda. They want to dethrone him. Backed into a corner, Marcel will seek counsel from someone entirely unexpected. The promo hints he is going to ask Klaus for help.

In the clip, the vampires are shown talking. The Tunde blade that Marcel put in Klaus' chest appears to be gone. Klaus in on his knees and his hands are shackled, but otherwise, he appears to be in better condition than the last time viewers saw him. Marcel is still angry with Klaus, emphasizing that he is king. There is a hint, though, that he will soon let go of his pride and asks the other vampire for advice.

Marcel is certainly rattled because of the looming uprising. Although he has lived for centuries, this is the first time that he has so much responsibility on his shoulders. Before, he had the Mikaelsons' support. He was part of the Original family and had nothing to fear. Since he has already denounced any relation to Klaus and his siblings, Marcel is left to face the new threats on his own. It will be difficult for him to trust anyone at this point. Whether he likes it or not, he needs Klaus.

"The Originals" Season 4 premieres Friday, March 17, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
