Jack Chick dies – Oct. 23, 2016
This week marks the anniversary of when Jack Chick, the provocative Christian cartoonist behind the widely circulated Chick Tracts, died at age 92.
Born in California in 1924, Chick was a prolific illustrator of Christian tracts, drawing them for about a half-century, and having his work translated into nearly 100 different languages.
Supporters argued that his work "helped bring salvation to thousands and thousands" by evangelizing large numbers of people through the wide distribution of the tracts.
Chick’s work was also polarizing, as his work vilified the Catholic Church, Muslims, Mormons, freemasons, Harry Potter, Dungeons & Dragons, abortion and homosexuality.
At the time of his death, the U.K.-based Daily Mail described Chick’s work as “pulpy, lurid cartoons [that] combined traditional evangelism with frankly conspiracy-minded attacks.”
