This week in Christian history: Conservative UMC group formed, Fourth Council of Constantinople begins, John of Capistrano enters order
Wesleyan Covenant Association formed — Oct. 7, 2016

This week marks the anniversary of when the Wesleyan Covenant Association, a theologically conservative advocacy group within The United Methodist Church, was launched.
The Evangelical group held an inaugural conference in Chicago, Illinois, which had approximately 1,800 attendees that included both clergy and laity of the UMC.
"I am convinced God is doing a new thing among those of us who claim the historic, Orthodox, evangelical, Wesleyan expression of our faith," said the Rev. Jeff Greenway of Reynoldsburg United Methodist Church near Columbus, Ohio, and leader of the WCA, at the time.
“I believe we are planting seeds today that when full grown will bear the fruit of a vital Wesleyan witness and a dynamic Spirit-filled Methodism across the globe.”
The WCA would effectively end operations by 2025 after the formation of the Global Methodist Church, a theologically conservative denomination mostly comprised of congregations that disaffiliated from the UMC.
