Top responses to NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani's inaugural address: 'Godless, rancid ideology'
Cultural Revolution survivor Xi Van Fleet: 'Destroying the individual'
Author Xi Van Fleet, who lived through Mao Zedong's Cultural Revolution and warned of its similarities to America's woke revolution in her 2023 bookMao's America: A Survivor's Warning, said Mamdani's collectivist worldview is at odds with the biblical concept of human beings made in God's image.
"Individualism versus collectivism marks one of the core differences between America and communism. In America, I am reminded that I am an individual — made in the image of God with inherent dignity and worth," she said.
"In Communist China, I was taught that I was merely a replaceable part of the Socialist collective machine, dispensable whenever the needs of the state demanded it. Collectivism kills individualism by destroying the individual."

During an interview with Tucker Carlson in 2024, Xi Van Fleet extensively warned that communists in the U.S. are using the same tactics used by Chinese communists in her home country to transform its culture by brainwashing young people.
British journalist and activist Tommy Robinson wrote an X post that included quotes from Mao, Stalin and Mussolini, echoing Mamdani's emphasis on the collective over the individual.
"Don't be afraid to call out objective evil when you hear it," said Robinson.
