4. Trump says he would back bill banning Sharia law in US
In an interview on “The Glenn Beck Program” Wednesday, host Glenn Beck asked Trump if he would “push for or sign a ‘No Sharia Law Act’ for America.” Trump answered in the affirmative, indicating that “I would absolutely say ‘that’s not this country.’” Trump expressed concern that “you do have pockets of it” in the U.S., adding, “You go to London, you go to Paris, it’s almost like a second way of life.”
“I would absolutely prohibit the Sharia Law thing,” he stressed. “It is happening in this country a little bit and when we see it, we take it out and you have to take it out. You have one system, we have a great system.”
A “No Shari’a Act” has been introduced in the 119th U.S. Congress. The bill warns that “In certain judicial and arbitration cases, parties have sought to apply foreign law contrary to United States constitutional guarantees,” and would “prohibit the enforcement of Shari’a or any foreign law that infringes on constitutional rights.”
The legislation also states that “No court shall enforce a judgment, decree, or arbitration decision if it relies, in whole or in part, on Shari’a or any foreign law that violates the constitutional rights of any party.”
“If you think an adolescent girl in a wedding dress next to a 50-year-old man is ‘cultural,’ you’ve lost your soul," Rep. Randy Fine, R-Fla., who introduced the legislation, said in a statement. "This is America. We don’t stone women for speaking. We don’t hang people in the streets for the world to watch and celebrate. We don’t force little girls into marriage or mutilate their genitals in the name of religion,” he said.
