Users Can Now Play Minecraft with Samsung's VR Headset

This is perhaps the best news to come out this year for Minecraft fanatics: finally, virtual reality is getting integrated into the highly addictive game and its players can now enjoy a fully immersive gaming experience in what is marketed as "Minecraft: Gear VR Edition" exclusively designed for Samsung's VR headset.

The announcement was made in a blog post from Oculus, saying that the virtual reality edition, as usual, will allow players to be able to build, explore, and battle mobs, as well as do so many other different things. But this time, the game is taking it to a new level by giving players the chance to become part of the action, and that is what VR is essentially trying to accomplish across all gaming platforms, although the Minecraft version is still limited to the Gear by Samsung.

John Carmack, CEO of Oculus, expressed his views about their company's latest innovation:

Experiencing it (Minecraft) in virtual reality changes it from an abstract activity to a visceral one – it goes from a sense of playing the game to one of being inside your world, and spinning around to find a creeper sneaking up on you leaves a powerful impression.

The two most important perks of virtual reality incorporated in gaming are 3D audio and the eye-level or almost real perspective.

The new Minecraft: Gear VR Edition is currently available for download in the Oculus Store for $6.99. It should be worth the money to pay for those who already are hooked up to the original game, since this time, they now can put themselves right into the world they're building. Although it is available in the Oculus store, game developers revealed that for now, it only can be played in Samsung phones and tablets with Gear VR compatibility. But the good news is that a version for the Oculus Rift is definitely planned next.
