Vietnam Permits Distribution of Bibles

Vietnam – The World Bible Translation Center Scriptures has been permitted to distribute its translation of the Vietnamese New Testament in Hanoi, marking the third such occasion within a communist regime.

"This new translation of the Bible is a modern translation that uses modern, contemporary Vietnamese language,” said WBTC’s Richard Loh.

According to Loh, the primarily Buddhist country has a population of 80 million and is home to an estimated one million professed Christians.

The WBTC, which is in its final stages of printing, will distribute 20,000 Vietnamese New Testaments by 2004, among the 800 registered churches across the country.
