World Communion Leaders to Hold Weeklong Meeting

The general secretaries of the Lutheran World Federation, World Council of Churches and the World Evangelical Alliance, among others, will come together for an annual meeting held at the Ecumenical Institute of Bossey, near Geneva.

Christianity has historically been marked by division and separation, stemming from differences in doctrinal, theological and ecclesiological understandings. However, once a year, the General Secretaries of the Christian World Communions come together to focus on things they do agree on and to develop a deeper understanding of the ecumenical movement.

This year, the annual meeting will be held at the Ecumenical Institute of Bossey, near Geneva, from Oct. 16-20.

Leaders who will attend the meeting include the general secretaries of the Lutheran World Federation, World Council of Churches and the World Evangelical Alliance, among others.

According to Juan Michael, press secretary for the WCC, there will be several items on the agenda, including a meeting with the UNAIDS director Dr. Peter Piot, a discussion on the reconfiguration of the ecumenical movement, and a Faith & Order report by director Rev. Dr. Tom Best.
