'X Factor' Finale Accident Injures 3
An accident backstage of the final performances on this season's "X Factor" has left three people injured.
The evening saw performances by the show's finalists as well as rapper 50 Cent, but while the live taping was being recorded, a stair riser struck three stagehands.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, emergency personnel rushed to the scene to treat the three staff members just off stage. There were two head injuries and one staffer suffered a blow to the elbow.
The stagehands were treated at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
The taping of "X Factor" continued despite the accident. As the evening progressed, the reality television show revealed the winner of the singing competition as 19-year-old Melanie Amaro.
The young singer won a $5 million recording contract as well as an appearance in a Pepsi commercial, which will air during next year's Super Bowl.
Amaro beat finalists Josh Krajcik and Chris Rene for the prize, and thanked God for the feat.
"Oh my God, oh my God," said Amaro onstage after she was announced as the winner. She was swarmed by family members and added, "God is good."
"Thank you so much, thank you. I'm just so happy and I don't know what to say," said the 19-year-old. "This is something I've wanted for all my life!"
