When Storms Come, We Stand Strong: Disaster Relief in Appalachia.

By  Kara Barrett

When devastating natural disasters strike the Appalachian region, the need for immediate aid and support is urgent.

Hail, wind and rain can be devastating—destroying homes and leaving families without shelter, food or access to basic necessities. These events are life-altering, but thanks to the Christian Appalachian Project (CAP)—and compassionate supporters like you—our neighbors are never alone.

CAP, a faith-based nonprofit dedicated to fighting poverty and hunger in Appalachia, quickly mobilizes when disaster strikes. When storms tear through communities, CAP’s team is ready to distribute emergency supplies like clean water, food, hygiene kits and other essentials to families in crisis.

“We are neighbors helping neighbors.” Aaron Thoms, CAP’s manager of Operation Sharing in Kentucky, said of CAP’s swift response to recent tornadoes.

CAP’s Disaster Relief program frequently partners with national and state-level Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD) to deliver critical supplies to the hardest-hit areas.

Headquartered in Kentucky, CAP provides a wide range of services beyond emergency relief, including home repair, food and clothing distribution and support for families and seniors in need across Appalachia. Through strategic partnerships with churches, volunteers and community organizations, CAP helps meet immediate needs and provides hope to people, sharing Christ’s love and message.

Driven by compassion and rooted in Christian values, CAP continues to be a beacon of light for thousands across one of America’s most underserved regions.
