$99 HP TouchPad Fire Sale: Motorola Droid Bionic Price Drops, $119 on Amazon

$99 HP TouchPad Fire Sale: Motorola Droid Bionic Price Drops, $119 on Amazon

The Motorola Droid Bionic received a significant price drop and is now selling at Amazon for just $119 with a two-year contract on Verizon Wireless.

Insiders speculated the smartphone may be discontinued or see a massive price drop soon due to its poor sales.

Despite many positive reviews, the phone has not sold well as its original retail price of $249 with a two-year contract.

Technology website Unwired View called the Droid Bionic one of the “nicest Android smartphones Verizon ever had."

However, many retailers have taken the smartphone out of their stock. RadioShack, in particular, called the Droid Bionic is “virtually unsellable.”

The Droid Bionic has been compared to the HP TouchPad that saw a similar fate last summer when it was discontinued after reports of low sales.

Several retailers reduced the tablet from $499 to $99 in a remarkable fire sale that sparked an unprecedented demand and made the tablet one of the most popular devices on the market.

After buying the tablet, many TouchPad owners expressed happiness with the tablet and even preferred it to Apple's iPad, its stiffest competitor.

Many have suggested the Droid Bionic needed a similar price drop to garner interest, which Amazon has now provided.

The Droid Bionic is marketed as the alternative to a number of smartphones, including the iPhone 4S and the Samsung Galaxy S2.

However, those smartphones are seeing more retail success than the Droid Bionic even with their equally large price tags.

Currently, no other retailer has reduced the price of the Droid Bionic. Its original price at Verizon remains the same.
