'Alien: Covenant' TV Spot Cleverly Combines Horror With Relaxing Country Music

Most science fiction films remain with their heart-stopping themes in creating commercials to raise awareness and increase hype prior to its release. For 20th Century Fox's "Alien: Covenant," however, they have created an odd yet effective medium that combines contrasting emotions in one simple clip.

The latest TV spot for the movie shows the usual scenes that fans have already seen before — Earth-native vegetation on an alien planet, Xenomorphs sprawling everywhere, humans running for their lives. The choice of background music though was a stroke of genius, as it borrows the iconic country song "Take Me Home, Country Roads" by John Denver.

For some eerie reason, the song does make sense as the team should have just stayed on Earth instead of venturing to other planets where they know close to nothing. Aside from that, using the relaxing tune give the false sense of comfort at the start of the commercial, only to be surprised by an impending threat midway through.

This wasn't the only TV spot released for the film. Other clips named "Hide," "Pray" and "Run" were released a day before, showing that the team behind the movie is pulling all the stops to publicize it.

Commercials and trailers aren't the only ways 20th Century Fox is using to boost excitement for the film. On April 26, a global live stream event dubbed "Alien Day" is going to take place at 10 a.m. PT. The activities during the said date are as follows: Q&A with Cast Members of "Alien: Covenant"; exclusive footage from "Alien: Covenant"; announcement of Fan Art Contest winner; digital art competition; and launch of behind-the-scenes digital series.

The film tackles man's quest for space exploration in which they discover what they first thought to be paradise away from Earth. When they realize that they arrived in a dangerous place, they must do everything to escape.

"Alien: Covenant" takes moviegoers to a new level of extraterrestrial horror on May 19, 2017.
