Amazon Kindle Fire Release Date: Larger Screen on the Way?
Rumors surfaced that claim Amazon might release an 8.9-inch version of the Amazon Kindle Fire in the future, according to DigitalTrends
“The rumor mill is turning again. Before its first tablet has even hit shelves, Amazon is rumored to be prepping its next Kindle Fire, which will have an 8.9-inch screen,” reported the technology website.
The original Kindle Fire retails at $200 and sports a 7-inch screen.
Either this price covers the cost to produce the tablet or Amazon is losing money with each unit sold, according to DigitalTrends.
A larger screen on a new model would cost Amazon even more to produce, but the online retailer plans to recoup the cash by selling more applications, games, music, books and other media elements on the tablet.
Amazon’s current screen suppliers, Chunghwa Picture Tubes and LG Display, are preparing to manufacture 8.9-inch displays for a future Kindle tablet.
“Following the launch of the 8.9-inch tablets, Amazon may also release 9.7- to 10.1-inch models in 2012,” DigiTimes reported.
DigitalTrends pointed out that 8.9-inches is the “perfect” screen size for a tablet.
“It’s small enough to hold and thumb type on, but not so small that it feels like an oversized smartphone,” the website said. “You get the benefit of a full-screen experience without the bulk that comes with larger screens.”
If this information proves to be accurate, Amazon will probably announce the tablet’s new screen size in early 2012.
The company usually sticks to a yearly product lifestyle, but might rush out its next tablet to keep with the fast moving market.
