Edgar Ramirez has been cast as the victim, Versace. For the role, he went through such a transformation. He has been photographed filming scenes at the Miami Beach mansion where Versace was murdered. Ramirez sported white-blond hair, scruff, and as expected, high-fashion pieces.

Ricky Martin portrays Gianni's long-time partner Antonio D'Amico while Penelope Cruz plays Gianni's sister, Donatella Versace. "Glee" alum Darren Criss plays the murderer, Cunanan.

"The Assassination of Gianni Versace" was reportedly eyed for the third season of the series. But it was eventually bumped up while the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina was reassigned to season 3. Production for the Katrina-focused season is currently underway but a release date has yet to be announced.

"American Crime Story" season 2 was written by Tom Rob Smith. Its pilot episode was helmed by Murphy. Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Brad Falchuk, Alexis Martin Woodall, Dan Minahan, along with Murphy and Smith serve as executive producers.

"American Crime Story" debuted with "The People v. O.J. Simpson," which received 22 Emmy nominations and won nine of them, including a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, AFI, PGA, WGA, and TCA.

"The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story" premieres on Jan. 17, 2018 at 10 p.m. ET on FX.
