The Android 4.4 KitKat update will roll out to most of Samsung's high-end devices in the near future.

The company released a list of those that will upgrade via press release earlier this week that included the Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S4 Active, Galaxy S4 mini, Galaxy S4 Zoom, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Mega, Galaxy Light, Galaxy Note 8.0, Galaxy Tab 3, Galaxy Note 10.1 and Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition.

Samsung also detailed the changes the update will bring to all of these devices.

"The upgrade provides a number of innovative, easy-to-use features that enhance the user experience, including a more intuitive user interface, enhanced messaging capabilities and updated applications," wrote the company.

These features include a new location menu that allows users to easily activate GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks while simultaneously checking the battery usage of apps running location and service capabilities.

Enhanced Messaging will give users the ability to choose between Messages or Hangouts as their preferred default messaging application and select from a larger assortment of updated Emoji icons.

Google Mobile Service will be updated to allow users to automatically back up photos and video and can open, view, rename and share Google Docs and files.

The roll out of the software to a particular device will vary from carrier to carrier. The updates are scheduled to begin today and will be completed in the coming months.

Android 4.4, KitKat was introduced with the Nexus 5 smartphone towards the end of last year and has already rolled out for various other flagships including the HTC One in parts throughout the world. It follows Android 4.3, JellyBean which was introduced shortly before the summer of 2013 on the Nexus 7.
