Anna Paquin Rouge Character Cut Out of 'X-Men Days of Future Past'

Anna Paquin, the actress who plays Rogue in the X-Men movie series, will not be appearing in the 2014 X-Men movie "X-Men Days Of Future Past." Why was she cut from the movie? Director Bryan Singer provides answers.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Singer said Paquin was cut from the movie not because of her performance, but because the only scene she was in became unnecessary.

"Through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous. It's a really good sequence and it will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it. But like many things in the editing process, it was an embarrassment of riches and it was just one of the things that had to go. Unfortunately, it was the one and only sequence Anna Paquin was in, the Rogue character was in. Even though she's in the materials and part of the process of making the film, she won't appear in it," Singer told Entertainment Weekly.

The director went on to impress that Paquin is not to blame for the scene being cut, and, in fact, he was quite pleased with her performance.

"She did a fantastic job. She was awesome in the sequence. She's a brilliant actress. I would work with her in a heartbeat," he said.

And according to Singer, Paquin took the bad news very well.

"She completely understood. It's very disappointing, but she's very professional and she knows that stuff happens, particularly with material you shoot early on in production. Films evolve," he said.

"X-Men Days Of Future Past" is set to be released May 23, 2014.
