Anna Paquin Says Being Bisexual is Not 'Being Greedy'

Anna Paquin, known for her role in the widely popular series "True Blood," has been the subject of controversy regarding her current pregnancy and bisexual lifestyle.

Paquin, who is the youngest person to ever win an Academy Award, is an expectant mother with True Blood co-star and husband Stephen Moyer. She maintains that her decision to come out as a bisexual has been "meaningful" in her life.

"I'm sure for some people saying they're bisexual feels less scary than making a statement that they're gay," Paquin told Zooey magazine during an interview.

Paquin insists that her attractions are based on feelings that she has for her current husband. She also defended her belief in bisexuality, as many argue it's only a stepping stone to those embarrassed to live a gay lifestyle.

"For me, it's not really an issue because I'm someone who believes being bisexual is actually a thing. It's not made up. It's not a lack of decision. It's not being greedy or numerous other ignorant things I've heard at this point. For a bisexual, it's not about gender. That's not the deciding factor for who they're attracted to," Paquin said.

In 2010 Paquin announced that she was bisexual, even though she was already with the father of her child, through a public service announcement that included other notable entertainers.

The PSA "Give a Damn" includes Elton John, Wanda Sykes, Cyndi Lauper and Whoopi Goldberg. During the video, Paquin revealed that she is bisexual while advocating for gay issues and putting an end to hate crimes.

When asked how her declaration affected her family she stated that it had a minimal effect, but noted that if a person is going to support something they should be willing to reveal why it is an important issue for them.

"If you're going to talk about some cause in a way that's meaningful, you should identify why it means something to you."

But she also concedes that some aspects of a person's life should remain private. "I think it's important to have things that are just for you and people that are closest to you," she told the magazine.
