'Ant-Man and The Wasp' News, Cast, Spoilers: Adam McKay Returns to as Scribe for Sequel

Marvel's "Ant-Man" was an undeniable success. Despite originally being only a solo movie to introduce the character, the film surpassed expectations. It's no wonder that Marvel, despite having such a jam-packed schedule, decided to reshuffle its Phase 3 and Phase 4 schedules just to accomodate a few sequels, including "Ant-Man and The Wasp."

Of course, one of the reasons for the success of the movie can be attributed to Paul Rudd's witty portrayal of the tiny hero, but writers and directors also certainly played a big role in the well execution of the film. Now it seems that Adam McKay, the co-writer for "Ant-Man," may be returning as scribe for the second installment that will feature Evangeline Lily playing the Wasp, alongside Rudd. Rudd and Lily and are already set to return, as well as director Payton Reed, so McKay would be the only missing part of the puzzle.

McKay was originally a replacement for filmmaker Edgar Wright, who left the script writing process, so he wasn't entirely a newcomer in the installment. This makes his return to the next film somewhat more uncertain. McKay talked to The Hollywood Reporter about his involvement with the upcoming film, and he shared, "I was talking to [Paul] Rudd about it the other day. We'll see what happens, but that would certainly be fun. I loved working with Marvel. And I have a couple of projects in development. One of them is more dramatic, one's more comedy, still with a little bit of political teeth to it. And there's a TV show idea I've been kicking around."

It seems that McKay is up for rejoining the team, and as of now, it only depends on Marvel whether they'd make him do so in the "Ant-Man and The Wasp." It is also said that one of the things that could be holding McKay back would be his involvement with "The Inhumans;" however, with its date being pushed back as well, he would have enough time to do both films.

"Ant-Man and The Wasp" is expected to hit theaters on July 6, 2018.
