'Ant-Man & The Wasp' News: Release Date On July 6, 2018, Peyton Reed In Talks To Direct It

Peyton Reed, who directed the first "Ant-Man," will in all probability return to helm the second installment of Marvel's "Ant-Man and the Wasp." Marvel announced that "Ant-Man and the Wasp" is scheduled for a July 6, 2018 release. This is also the first time that a female superhero's name has been included in the title of a Marvel movie.

"Ant-Man's" global box-office haul is now at $454.6 million, with its China box office over the weekend chalking up an impressive $43.2 million from Friday to Sunday.

"Ant-Man" director Peyton Reed is reportedly in talks to direct "Ant-Man and the Wasp." Viewers will recall that a difficult situation had arisen during the filming of the first Ant-Man film when director Edgar Wright had walked off the project. Reed had stepped in as director and most would agree he did a decent job. Most of the credit for the success of "Ant-Man" goes to him as at present, Ant-Man has overtaken the global box-office totals of Avengers films like Captain America and Thor.

Obviously, Marvel wants Reed back on "Ant-Man and the Wasp."

Paul Rudd will reprise his role as Scott Lang a.k.a. the Ant-Man and he will also appear in Marvel's extravaganza, "Captain America: Civil War."

Evangeline Lilly will be playing Hope Van Dyne a.k.a. the Wasp, along with Michael Douglas as Dr. Hank Pym. It was Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige who had indicated that the Wasp will be a big part of the story this time and viewers will see Wasp in full action-mode in the movie.

The importance of Wasp to the movie is indicated by the fact that for the first time in Marvel's history, a tiny female superheroine has made it to the title of the film.

The fact that Marvel has juggled the release dates of other Marvel films to accommodate the release of "Ant-Man and the Wasp" scheduled for July 2018 indicates that Ant-Man has become an important superhero in the Marvel Universe.
