Apple Looks Into Reports of iPhone 8 Plus Units With Swollen Batteries
Roughly three weeks since its launching, the iPhone 8 Plus seems to be performing impressively — until reports concerning its battery started to appear.
According to BGR, at least seven iPhone 8 Plus users have reported seeing their device's battery swelling. In addition, the report mentioned that iPhone 8 users from different countries have also complained about their units.
Owners from countries like Taiwan, China, Japan, Hong Kong, Canada, and Greece have reported their devices have split apart because of the swelling batteries. The incident of the batteries expanding, however, varied. Some reported that the swelling occurred while they were charging the device while others said it happened when the unit fell on the ground.
Meanwhile, at least one incident reported that the battery had already swelled straight out of the box.
Apple, on the other hand, has already launched an investigation on the users' complaints, said a BBC report. "We are aware and looking into it," was the short but serious statement of Apple regarding the matter.
Meanwhile, MacRumors noted that it was "common" to have a small number of defective ones, considering the millions of units that Apple shipped. With less than 10 reported incidents, it can be said that the number is still insignificant.
Problems with smartphone batteries are not exclusive to the iPhone. It can be recalled that the Galaxy Note 7 of rival Samsung also had their fair share of battery-related issues. Users of the phablet reported that their phones exploded while in use or during charging. The incident experienced by users from different parts of the world prompted the tech giant to recall the device.
Samsung, in turn, launched their own investigation and confirmed that the root of the problem was the battery. With the recent launching of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, it seems that the company had already learned its lesson as it focused its attention on providing a safer and better-performing battery.
