Apple Pay Cash Scheduled for Release This October

Apple Pay Cash — the feature that allows users to do peer-to-peer payments via iMessage — is set for an October 2017 release.

According to reports, Apple is getting ready to launch the anticipated feature next month. The tech giant has yet to confirm this though, since it remains unclear whether the feature will be released in late October or if the launch timeline seen on Apple's website was just a slip-up from a developer. The iPhone X is expected to debut on Nov. 3, so it would make sense if Apple decides to release the feature around then.

Apple Pay Cash makes it easier to send money to friends and family because payments can be sent and received through the iMessage service. The feature was developed such that the app recognizes when the user mentions a dollar amount while using it and brings the amount up automatically.

The money received by the user will be credited to the his or her own Apple Pay Cash card. This is a requirement for users to get their funds or simply send money to others. It can also be used to make cashless purchases or online transfers.

Additional steps may be required by Apple to use the new feature. It's possible that users will need to scan a photo ID to verify their identity and make sure they are of legal age.

9to5Mac points out that new betas for iOS 11.1 and watchOS 4.1 were released earlier this week, but Apple Pay Cash was not among the new features that came with either debut. Since the Apple Watch Series 1 page suggests the money-sharing feature will be available to the public a month from now, it is safe to assume that Apple Pay Cash will first be seen in the user-facing release of iOS 11.1 and watchOS 4.1.
