'Arrow' season 4 spoilers: New villains arise

The last season of the hit series "Arrow" ended with Oliver Queen riding off into the sunset with Felicity Smoke, leaving Starling City behind. It was an ending that surprised most fans of the show; however, some believe that Oliver's happy ending is well-deserved. So, does this mean that Oliver Queen will be gone forever, and if so, who is going to be the new hero of Starling City?

The new season will quickly answer that question and it seems Oliver and Felicity are merely on vacation and will remain so during the first episode. The pilot is entitled "Green Arrow." The synopsis of the episode reads, Oliver and Felicity's blissful getaway is cut short when Thea and Laurel visit them, in order to tell Oliver that he is needed back in Starling City, which has been attacked by Ghosts' assassins led by a dangerous man named Damian Darhk. But when Oliver returns, Diggle makes it clear that he does not want him on the team.

The show will be introducing a new character named Alex, a smart and polished political consultant, who will potentially be Thea's new love interest on the show.

The new season will see some new and old villains come to the forefront, in order to wreak havoc on Starling City once more after the devastating defeat of last season's big bad Ra's Al Ghul in the finale. Damien Darhk, the former arch nemesis of Ra's Al Ghul, will become this season's newest big bad, who will create chaos in the city. He is described as a Lex Luthor-esque type villain, who is ruthless and cunning.

Actor Ryan Robbins has been cast as Conklin, a sadistic and ruthless member of the criminal organization Shadowspire, Oliver's former nemesis and rival, who will be in a series of flashbacks that will show fans the backstory of what really happened to Oliver before he was introduced in the first season.

Fans of the hit series will be happy to know that Oliver and Felicity will still be together next season. However, the so-called domestic bliss will not last forever, and some fans wonder what might have happened to Ray Palmer because he did date Felicity on the show.

"Arrow" will be back on air on Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. on the CW.
