'Avatar 2' cast news: Michelle Rodriguez addresses casting rumors

Cast details were revealed for the upcoming sequel of hit movie "Avatar."

There were previous reports that stated "Fast and Furious" star Michelle Rodriguez will be joining the cast for "Avatar 2." However, during the Gabriela Cadena fashion show, the actress confirmed her exact involvement on the film. Rodriguez stated that she will not be taking part in the "Avatar" sequel and that the director of the movie James Cameron also did not offer her any role on the upcoming film.

However, she did share some details on what to expect for Avatar 2. She stated that Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang will be returning to the franchise. She said, "They're bringing back a lot of other characters. I know [Sigourney Weaver's] coming back and the guy who played the bad guy, [Stephen Lang], is coming back. But yeah, I'm not gonna be in it."

This raises some questions regarding the role of Sigourney Weaver. The previous installment had killed off her character, Dr. Grace Augustine. However, it was said that the installment will bring back the actress through a different character. Sigourney herself confirmed the fact during her appearance at "The Jonathan Ross Show." It was also confirmed that Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana will be reprising their roles in the upcoming sequel.

As for the plot of the movie, there were speculations that the world of Pandora will portray a theme of Prison. However, it has yet to be confirmed by director James Cameron. He did share that the movie will see conflict between dominating nature and integrating with nature. The movie will explore themes regarding the human's approach to nature and the Na'vi's approach to nature.

It was reported that the team had already started planning for "Avatar 3" and "Avatar 4," which will premiere after the sequel. Avatar 2 is expected to release in 2017.
