'Basketball Wives' Assailant Avoids Jail Time

Nia Crooks, the assistant who slapped former "Basketball Wives" star Jennifer Williams last year on national television, received her punishment for the act in court.

Crooks was recently sentenced to 1-year probation, a $645 fine, ordered to write a letter of apology, stay away from Jennifer and undergo 13 weeks of anger management, according to TMZ reports. Williams, 38, claimed that she suffered from psychological damages after Crooks slapped her on the popular VH1 reality television series.

Still, Williams decided to officially abandon her lawsuit against Crooks last year due to the stresses of dealing with a pending divorce from former NBA player Eric Williams.

"(Jennifer is) already dealing with her difficult divorce and did not feel that it was necessary to continue to pursue civil action," Williams' representative for the reality television star told TMZ previously.

Still, Williams took to Twitter to tell her followers that Crooks would face consequences for the assault that took place during season of "Basketball Wives."

"FYI dropping a civil lawsuit doesn't mean you don't have to deal with the criminal charges," Williams tweeted.

Crooks was eventually charged with misdemeanor battery by the Broward County State Attorney's Office before receiving her recent sentencing where she avoided one year in jail after striking a deal with prosecutors. Last year, Crooks was not ready to admit that she was at fault for the slap that led to Williams' filing a lawsuit against her.

"(It was) caused in whole or in part by the culpable conduct, carelessness, contributory negligence or assumption of risk of [Williams]," Crooks said in response to the lawsuit, according to TMZ reports from last month.

Now, the woman who served as reality television star Evelyn Lozada's assistant on the show is tweeting about her growth.

"Growing in every aspect of this thing we call life," Crooks tweeted recently.
