'Bates Motel' Season 5: News and Updates, Vera Farmiga's Insights on Norma's Lunacy in the Next Season, Cast, Plot, Release Date

In "Bates Motel" Season 4 finale episode, Norma Bates (Vera Farmiga) died in the hands of her son, Norman (Freddie Highmore). However, Norma will be back in the next season and will be in a different form.

Norma's Death

In fact, Vera Farmiga shared a bit of interesting observation on her character in Season 5, now that Norma is no longer alive. She noted that even if Norma died, it really does not imply that its the end of her story. She added that it is going to be a different dimension for Norma where she can be herself.

Furthermore, with Norma being dead, this will take over Norman's life. Basically, the world she will be living in is created by Norman's mind.

Showrunner Kerry Ehrin admitted that it has been hard since the show is about two of the main characters who are not psychologically able. Ehrin noted that writing the whole series has been a complex experience.

"Bates Motel" is a prequel to Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho". With that, the fifth and final season will bring in a major "Psycho" character to the show. Marion Crane, to be portrayed by Rihanna, will be a part of the upcoming season and will appear in different episodes. The production is hopeful that Crane will end the season with a memorable statement just like in the movie "Psycho."

Norman Copes Up with His Mother's Death

"Bates Motel" Season 5 will also be about Norman coping up with his mother's death. However, he lets her live in his thoughts, keeping Norma alive the way he wants her to be.

Norman Bates will be dealing with the tragic event all by himself and will eventually turn 'psycho' in the final season. This leaves him in an empty house with no one around, but himself. Another instance where Norman has gone a little bit out of his mind was when his dog, Juno, came back to life and greeted them when he brought home his mother's corpse.

With the series coming to its final season, it is worth anticipating what may happen to Norman Bates. Now that everyone he cared about has been taken away from him, will he eventually be out of his mind and never recover?

"Bates Motel" Season 5 will be released in spring next year in A&E.
