Norma's death has been vital in the fourth season finale, but she will still be an important character in Season 5. It seems that her spirit will live on in the upcoming season and will be the reason why Norman gets close to becoming a psycho.

In the whole series so far, the death of Norma Bates was the most tragic twist of the series.

In a recent report, showrunners Kerry Ehrin and Carlton Cuse talks about the importance of Norma in the coming fifth and final season. Ehrin noted that Vera has and will always be an important part of the show, whatever form she takes.

Both showrunners also shared that it was an emotional feeling to let go of Norma's character. Since she was always a big part of the show, getting rid of her had been painful and emotional for both of them.

Norma's Existence Will Continue

Norma's existence will live on inside Norman's mind. The complex relationship between the mother and son, with Norman being obsessed with her mother, gives the story a different turn. Now that she is dead, Norma's presence will live in his mind.

Showrunners of the series further confirmed that killing Norma in the fourth season was the plan all along. However painful the decision was, they had to do it.

The upcoming season will be more about the obsession on Norma and about Norman's life after her mother's tragic death.

"Bates Motel" is a horror television series produced by Universal Television. This series has been created as a prequel to Alfred Hitchcock's film titled "Psycho."
