Black Friday Sales Up 6.6 Percent in Record Shopping Day

Black Friday saw chaos across the country as millions of bargain hunter shoppers stormed shops and megastores everywhere to get the best deals.

Friday was not the only day of shopping craziness, as thousands are reported to have ventured out again over the weekend numerous times to their favorite stores to snap up bargains.

It has now been reported that Black Friday 2011 has generated $11.4 billion in retail revenue; the highest ever in what is now record sales for Black Friday, according to ShopperTrak.

Shopping “traffic” from walk in shoppers increased by 5.1 percent this year compared to last, according to the shopping expert site. Sales also increased by 6.6 percent.

However, along with happy bargain shoppers who snapped up their most wanted items, there was also a wave of chaos and even violence across numerous stores in America. There were reports of shoppers pepper spraying fellow shoppers, and shootings also took place at a number of locations.

There were also accusations of police brutality after officers in one Walmart store slammed a grandfather to the ground, knocking him unconscious and leaving him with blood pouring from his head in front of his eight-year-old grandson. Police had believed that he was shoplifting, however, it later was claimed that he had just tucked a video game into his pants to free up his hands to help his young grandson not get crushed in the packed crowds.
