Bonnie Franklin Battling Pancreatic Cancer: Fans React
Fans have taken to Twitter after news that "One Day At a Time" star Bonnie Franklin has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on Monday.
A statement from Franklin's family released by CBS indicated that the 68-year-old actress is undergoing treatment and will resume her normal schedule.
A Los Angeles, Calif. resident, Franklin and her family "remain extremely positive" and asked that her privacy be respected.
Franklin portrayed divorced mother of two Ann Romano on CBS's hit sitcom "One Day At a Time," which ran from 1975-1984. Mackenzie Phillips and Valerie Bertinelli portrayed her on-screen daughters.
Phillips took to Twitter following the news of Franklin's illness.
"Sending out love and sweet prayers to my 'mom.' The incomparable Bonnie Frankin," posted the actress.
The petite red-headed actress also appeared on TV Land's "Hot in Cleveland" last year alongside Betty White as well as her "One Day" co-star Bertinelli.
Moreover, Franklin recently appeared on CBS's "The Young & The Restless." The last episode featuring the actress on the soap aired on Monday.
Hundreds of the actress' fans took to social media sites following the news of her battle against cancer.
"Sad news to share about Bonnie Franklin," Twitter user Meredith posted. "She has pancreatic cancer."
"Wishing a speedy recovery to One Day at a Time's Bonnie Franklin who has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer," wrote TV Guide on Twitter.
In response to Phillips' tweet about Franklin, the Twitter account behind "Hot in Cleveland" posted their added support, writing, "We are [praying] too!"
Other internet users also expressed their grief and well wishes for the actress, including People magazine readers.
"Wow, sorry to hear this," wrote one reader. "Wish her all the best and sending prayers."
Robin wrote: "My prayers go out to Bonnie Franklin, I love watching her in On (sic) Day at a Time."
"Ms Franklin's a feisty lady who will beat this," wrote Td Waite. "Prayers to her for strength to win the battle."
Her family said Franklin is grateful for her fans' support and concern during this difficult time.
