Justin Bieber released his new single entitled "Boyfriend" on iTunes early Monday and the song is already receiving widespread applause for its new and mature sound.
"I'm maturing, and my music is maturing, so I wanted to do something different. I've got a lot of great collaborators working with me, and we're thinking outside the box," Bieber said about the new song to USA Today.
The lyrics begin with a short rap, "If I was your boyfriend I'd never let you go, I can take you places you never been before," Bieber says before singing "I can be a gentleman, anything you want."
"Boyfriend, my first single, was really fun to make, I was in the studio with Mike Posner. When I was writing the raps for it and the versus I was just thinking about things that I would do if I was your boyfriend," Bieber said in a video posted on his website.
The 18-year-old teen heartthrob already has his fans, affectionately nicknamed "beliebers," swooning, with many taking to Twitter to share their excitement about his new song and also receiving retweets by Bieber himself.
