'Chicago PD' season 3 spoilers: Lindsey will return to the force

In the last season of the hit series "Chicago PD," Erin Lindsey (Sophia Bush) quit after a disastrous battle with some corrupt narcotics cops. On the other hand, Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) finally proposed to Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati), while Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) raised money in order to buy the boxing gym that practically saved his life with the help of his friends in the precinct.

In the forthcoming season, fans will meet someone from Hank Voight's (Jason Beghe) shadowy past. Actor Clancy Brown, who is known for his role as General Wade Eiling from "The Flash," will play Eddie Little, an inmate. Little and Voight met when they were both incarcerated.

Fans will also get to meet Erin's misguided mother again next season. Actress Markie Post will reprise the role. In the last season, it was Erin's mother who was pushing her to quit and she did in the final episode. "The enormity of the loss and what she's going through might make it real easy to go over to the other the side of the tracks and start having drinks with her mom. A part of her thinks, 'This is where I belonged to begin with,' so it's a fork in the road," said producer Matt Olmstead when he was asked about Bush's character.

Speaking of Bush's character, fans are eager to know where Erin is headed next since she quit in the finale. "There's a part of me that would like for us to pick up the day after she quits and see what happens. Hopefully it will take a couple of episodes for her to want to go back," the actress said.

In the new season, fans will find Lindsey in a terrible place where she is back to her old vices again. However, Lindsey gets drawn back into the police force when Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) is kidnapped by someone who wants to negotiate with her.

The title of the first episode will be "Life is Fluid" and it will take place right where the last season left off. It will focus on Erin and how she deals with her life, as well as how everyone is dealing with the aftermath.

Chicago PD returns on Sept. 30.
