Consumers Begin Black Friday Holiday Shopping for Thanksgiving (VIDEO)

One of the most unusual aspects of the start of this year’s holiday shopping season is the number of retailers who are scheduling store hours for Thanksgiving.

More Consumers Beginning Their Holiday Shopping on Thanksgiving

Some stores like Wal-Mart are planning on opening at 10:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving night, and Toys R Us, which opened at 10:00 p.m. last year will be opening its doors at 9:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving this year.

According to the National Retail Federation, in terms of those early morning shopping hours such as midnight on Black Friday:

“We fully expect to see excited shoppers as early as midnight at stores around the country, as many holiday shoppers would rather stay up all night to take advantage of retailers’ Black Friday deals rather than set their alarm to wake up the next morning.”

And in order to get a jump on fellow shoppers some are planning on beginning their buying adventure on Thanksgiving.

A number of stores are receiving complaints not by shoppers but by employees, who will have to forgo their Thanksgiving Day off to attend to the needs of consumers.

The CEO of Best Buy recently described to the New York Times some ambivalence to opening on Thanksgiving, but explained that store hours are based on the demands of shoppers.

Still with weeks of announcements touting savings and the best deals ever offered on expensive merchandise, this year, many shoppers appear to be willing to sacrifice a portion of their turkey festivities.
