Droid RAZR to Be Updated to Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) by 2012; What to Expect
Ice Cream Sandwich, the new Android mobile operating system which is supposed to be available for Motorola's newest smartphone, Droid Razr, by early 2012, promises to bring a range of exciting new features.
From rich notifications, customizable home screens and re-sizable widgets to deep interactivity, Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is quite an upgrade to its predecessors, Gingerbread and Honeycomb. For one, an explore-by-touch mode will let users navigate without having to see the screen.
The new graphics foundation, Roboto, will allow the user enjoy a clean typeface. Samsung and Google, Android's godparents, promise that Roboto will give the OS's display the appearance of a professional magazine layout.
The system features a new target sensing lock screen unlock. It will also allow to add whatever apps one might wish for to the favorite's tray.
The Recent Apps button will let users jump instantly from one task to another using the list in the System Bar, while the list pops up to show thumbnail images of apps used recently. Tapping a thumbnail switches to the app.
New home screen folders offer a new way for users to group their apps and shortcuts logically, just by dragging one onto another. From the All Apps launcher, users can now simply drag an app to get information about it or immediately uninstall it, or disable a pre-installed app.
Motorola's Droid Razr is "the world's thinnest 4G smartphone." It comes with some very interesting specs and features on its own, like the 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, a 4.3-inch super AMOLED advanced QHD display, am 8-megapixel rear camera capable of shooting 1080p video and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera.
Motorola's new super-thin smartphone will have to tackle serious opponents on the market, most notably iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy.
