Floyd Mayweather News: Gennady Golovkin Urges Mayweather to Prove That He Is 'Easy Work'

Retired undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been out of the professional prizefighting world since September 2015, after coasting through former world champion Andre Berto.

"Money Mayweather" retired from the sport from the third time, with a record of 49-0, with 26 wins by knockout. Yet, despite his retirement, his name is continuously being paired with some of the top names in the sport today, one of them being undefeated Kazakh knockout superstar Gennady Golovkin.

"GGG" emerged victorious in his most recent fight against Dominic Wade on Saturday night at the Forum in California, winning the contest via second round TKO. With another spectacular victory, the 34-year old fighter now holds a win-loss slate of 35-0, with 32 wins by knockout.

For his part, Mayweather has belittled Golovkin's accomplishments as a fighter. During a February interview with Fight Hype, Floyd Jr. simply described Golovkin as "easy work."

"I can barely make 147, so how am I gonna fight at 160? Triple G, not being disrespectful, but he's straight up and down, no special effects. That's easy work."

Golovkin's trainer Abel Sanchez, on the other hand, did not take Mayweather's words too personally, as he believes the former pound-for-pound king of boxing is simply mounting a possible comeback.

"It looks like he's laying the ground work for something, whether it's Golovkin or somebody else," Sanchez said in a March 19 interview with On The Ropes Boxing Radio. "Floyd's laying the ground works for a comeback."

Apparently, the same could not be said for Golovkin. In a report by Boxing Junkie, Golovkin challenged Mayweather to prove his go on and prove his remarks.

"I think Floyd and his father — he knows I'm very serious boxer. He said 'oh, easy game,'" Golovkin said. "Of course I am? I love easy work! Please, bring, show me easy work. I love easy money, I love easy work. Please give me easy work."
