Free iPod Touch for iPod Nano Owners? Apple to Replace All First Generation iPod Nanos for Free
Apple is recalling all first-generation iPod nanos due to overheating battery issues. The company has posted a notice on Friday, asking owners to immediately stop using the device and receive a free replacement.
“Apple has determined that, in very rare cases, the battery in the iPod nano (1st generation) may overheat and pose a safety risk. Affected iPod nanos were sold between September 2005 and December 2006,” said a notice on the support section of Apple’s website.
According to Apple, there is a problem with a single battery supplier that produced batteries with a manufacturing defect. The older the product gets, the more likely it is to overheat. “While the possibility of an incident is rare, the likelihood increases as the battery ages,” said the post.
iPod nano owners can check the serial number on the back of the products to see if they qualify for a replacement, which will be offered six weeks after the original unit is handed in.
It is not clear if owners will be replaced with the seventh generation brand new touch screen model of the iPod Nano or an older version.
