Galaxy Nexus Release Date: New Smartphone Does Not Compare to Galaxy S?

The Galaxy Nexus pales in comparison to the iPhone 4S and Galaxy S2 in certain departments, according to GizmoCrunch.

“While the Samsung Galaxy Nexus has much fanfare behind it, there are a couple of issues with the choice of hardware its packing,” said GizmoCrunch. “In fact, some of its hardware is quite outdated and somewhat surprising.”

The new smartphone has a 5-megapixel camera in 1080p HD, while both the Galaxy S2 and iPhone 4S sport cameras that are 8-megapixels.

Older Samsung models, including the Nexus One and original Galaxy S, already included cameras that are 5-megapixels so it seems that the company is not trying to innovate in that department.

GizmoCrunch also pointed out the lack of updated hardware with Samsung's choice to include a 3-year-old PowerVR SGX 540 in the handset.

This component stunts the growth of the Galaxy brand, because the new smartphone was barely able to keep up with the Galaxy S in a recent GLBenchmark test, according to the site.

It also makes the device have no chance in competing with smartphones, such as the Galaxy S2 and iPhone 4S.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is expected to launch in the United States shortly after Black Friday and will be exclusively available on Verizon for a short period.

Other carriers should sell the smartphone shortly after Verizon releases it. There is also the possibility that the Galaxy Nexus will remain exclusive to Verizon.

Ice Cream Sandwich, Google’s latest Android operating software, will make its debut on the upcoming Galaxy Nexus.
