'Gambit' Movie News, Cast, Spoilers: Production Won't Be Rolling Till Next Spring

Despite everything that has held back the movie, "Gambit," it seems that it will finally be happening. When the film adaptation about the card-throwing mutant was initially announced, a number of events almost stopped production from even starting.

First was with Channing Tatum's commitment to the movie. Although he had continuously expressed his wish to be a superhero, his acceptance of the role "Gambit" was met with scheduling problems. Luckily, it was all smoothed out later on and he was able to finally close the deal. However, it didn't take long for another problem to occur, as suddenly, director Rupert Wyatt was reported to have left the project due to creative differences between him and the studio. This left the director's seat up in the air for the movie. After long months of being on hold, "Gambit" seems to be ready to roll as a new director has finally been found.

According to Screen Rant, Doug Liman, known for directing films like "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" and "Edge of Tomorrow," will now be taking the director's chair. However, despite everything seemingly already in place, the movie won't be able to start filiming until next spring, which has pushed back the original October 2016 release date.

However, Simon Kinberg, producer of the X-Men franchise, spoke of good things about Liman in an interview with Collider. He also gave an update about the development of the film, saying that as of now the script is still currently in the works and assured that it will be ready in time for the spring production.

Kinberg took the chance to clarify as well how "Gambit" will be different from "Deadpool" as he is quoted explaining, "I mean Deadpool obviously has a very different, almost antithetical tone to the mainline X-Men movies. The X-Men movies are dramatic and almost operatic, whereas Deadpool is irreverent and hysterical and sort of a dirty R-rated comedy in many ways. And Gambit will have its own different flavor and tone to it, will be more of like a heist movie and a sexy thriller in a way."
