'Game of Thrones' Season 5: Episode 4 Recap 'Sons of the Harpy'

Game of Thrones
A scene from the "Sons of the Harpy" episode of Game of Thrones |

This week on "Game of Thrones," the Sons of the Harpy send out a message, Ellaria and the Sand Snakes plot their revenge, and Loras Tyrell is arrested.

The Sparrows have increased their presence on King's Landing, and with the High Sparrow on Cersei's side, they have become a major force in the city. In the episode, we see the Sparrows carving a religious symbol on their foreheads, an ominous sign of violence to come. Later, they arrest Loras Tyrell for his homosexual behavior, in keeping with their shaming of the high priest in episode three.

Loras' arrest was clearly what Cersei was hoping for as she hinted to the High Sparrow that the greatest sinners can be found in the highest places. The arrest also hints at Cersei's growing fear that Margaery's manipulative abilities will soon best her own.

Meanwhile, Ellaria is plotting ways of exacting revenge on the Lannisters after her lover, Oberyn Martell, was killed. She wants nothing more than to kill the young princess Myrcella, and now that she has learned that Jaime has secretly entered her domain, she's more intent on getting revenge. She has the Sand Snakes on her side, and all of them are a force to be reckoned with as they are very skilled fighters. At one point, one of them throws a spear into the head of the ship captain who smuggled Jamie in, and kills him instantly.

The feud between the Sons of the Harpy and the Unsullied rages on. Grey Worm is seen pursuing a man in a Harpy mask, and a woman points him and his fellow Unsullied to a trap. The Unsullied are quickly outnumbered, and Daenerys' main adviser, Barristan Selmy, arrives in time to save a seriously injured Grey Worm, and he gives his life in the process of doing so. Daenerys' advisers are dropping, and it could be only a matter of time before she gets into trouble before Tyrion and Jorah arrive to join her.

"Game of Thrones" airs on Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO.
