Google Nexus 7 2 Release Date Set for May 2013?
The Google Nexus 7 2 release date could be as early as May 2013, as Google announced this week that it will hold its Google I/O developers conference that month.
Google I/O will take place from May 15-17 at The Moscone Center West in San Francisco, according to an announcement made by the company yesterday.
At last year's conference, the company introduced its new Google Nexus 7 tablet, along with its Android 4.1, Jelly Bean OS.
Next year's event could be the place where Google introduces the world to the successor of the tremendously successful Nexus 7 Android tablet.
Google I/O usually spans over a few days and the company uses it to unveil its latest hardware and software.
Nexus 7, along with the Android 4.1, JellyBean update to 2011's Ice Cream Sandwich, have brought the company much success over the past year.
Now, Google is rumored to be releasing its Android 5.0, Key Lime Pie sometime in the near future. Next year's Google I/O conference might be the perfect time and place to do it. It also would make sense to introduce the software on a Nexus tablet, since the last major Android refresh debuted on a smartphone known as the Galaxy Nexus.
Either way, Google does not plan on confirming any more information on this year's conference until February, so Android fans will have to hold out a little bit longer.
The Google Nexus 7 2, if unveiled at next year's Google I/O, will probably have a faster processor, high resolution HD display, and could debut running Android 5.0, Key Lime Pie.
The smaller tablet will have to go up against Apple's iPad Mini that was released earlier this year. Apple is also rumored to be released a new iPad Mini with retina display sometime in the first half of next year.
