'Gotham' season 2 news, cast, spoilers: Joker's origin going to be a main part?

For the viewers of the Batman-inspired show "Gotham," a more exciting season is coming their way. Despite the departure of mafia boss Fish Mooney, the darkness looming over Gotham has just started, especially with Oswald Cobblepot (the Penguin) taking over. With the recent spoilers pointing to the beginning of iconic villains in the popular DC comics, it seems like fans are getting a dose of younger versions in accordance to the timeline.

The recent trailer for the show definitely gave a peek of who can be expected in season 2. Theo and Tabitha (aka Tigress) Galavan, the socialite murderous siblings who will be causing more chaos, have finally been showcased. One of the standout characters in the promo is definitely Jerome Valeska, who seems to be channeling a pre-Joker vibe. Showrunner Bruno Heller shared with The Hollywood Reporter as to how Jerome's character will give rise to the Joker. He goes, "We're going to find out how the hell Jerome, the proto-Joker we met earlier in this season, connects with the Joker as people known him. That's the big focus of the beginning of the second season. We're going to tell the story of how the Joker came to be."

It isn't confirmed yet whether Jerome is the beginning of the actual Joker; however, many fans are already against the idea. The comics has never revealed the true identity of Joker, and many feel that this is what makes him unique. However, thers do feel that the attempt of Cameron Monaghan, the actor who plays Jerome, to portray that menacing villain is decent enough for the show.

For now, there are many other characters who will still evolve into their classic comic antagonist counterparts. First would be Selina Kyle, played by Camren Bicondova, who is in the midst of being involved with the wrong crowd that may finally trigger her development into Catwoman. Aside from Joker and the Galacan siblings, other villains to see in their earlier days would be Edward Nygma's Riddler played by Cory Michael Smith and Hitman Victor Zsasz (Anthony Carrigan).

Gotham season 2 will premiere on Sept. 21, Monday, 8 p.m. ET/PT.
