'Gotham' Season 3 Updates: The Joker Will Be Back to Terrorize Gotham City; More Villains to Keep James Gordon Busy

One of the villains who will be back in the third season of "Gotham" is the Joker (Cameron Monaghan).

Jerome was killed early in the previous season, but hearing the Joker's laugh in the final episode of Season 2 could mean that he will finally be back to terrorize Gotham city.

In a report, Executive Producer Ken Woodruff stated that the audible laugh was to keep the character of the Joker alive. He added that the show isn't done yet exploring Joker's myth in the story. Though the Joker will not be introduced right away once season 3 kicks off, he will definitely be back in the latter part of the show.

Season 3 will be a continuation of how Joker was introduced in the earlier seasons. There will be a deeper understanding of the Joker once the show moves on. An underground movement will talk a lot about Jerome and all the things he represented. Then he will be back on that day (please specify about this "day". when is this? what will happen?).

A cult about the Joker will be introduced in the show. A proto-joker who will transform into the Batman villain will also be developed as the show moves along. Slowly, Jerome's deeds will be heard of and a lot of people will know about him. It only shows that Jerome is not done yet with getting what he wants in the city. He will come back and will be more dangerous as he progresses.

More Villains Will Keep Gotham Busy

Other villains will also be part of the third season. The Mad Hatter and Alice may also create chaos in the city. Edward Nygma's (Corey Michael Smith) true character will eventually be revealed in the series. Fans can also expect The Riddler to return.

Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) will also return in the third season. He will be back with a revolution. In fact, the latest trailer shows the Penguin having an all-out war towards Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) as she takes over Gotham City.

A mature Poison Ivy (Maggie Geha) will also make her way to find a place in Gotham. She will make Jim Gordon's (Ben McKenzie) job more challenging than it already is. Gordon will also be dealing with more villains this time. As the chaos slowly builds up again in the city, this may be a way for Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) to grow as Batman.

"Gotham" Season 3 will premiere on Monday, September 19, 2016.
