HTC One M10 vs. Google Nexus 6P: Specs, Prices, Release Dates

The latest HTC flagship phone, the HTC One M10 or simply HTC 10, has earned praise for its elegant build and great audio quality, but how does it measure up to the Google Nexus 6P, which tech reviewers have called the best Nexus phone ever?

While the Nexus 6P boasts a high quality display and a sharp camera, its boxy design has underwhelmed many critics. Given that the 6P and the HTC 10 are almost similarly priced, which premium smartphone offers a better deal?

Both the HTC 10 and the Nexus 6P have aluminium unibody construction with rounded edges. But while the HTC 10 measures a slimmer 145.9 x 71.9 x 9 mm, the Nexus 6P is big and boxy at 159.3 x 77.8 x 7.3 mm. The 6P is also heavier at 185 grams compared to the HTC 10's 161 grams.

The HTC 10 offers a variety of colors that deviate from the black and white that dominate the smartphone market. There are gray, gold, red, and silver variants of the phone. The Nexus 6P, on the other hand, comes in aluminum, frost, and graphite.

Specs

While the HTC 10 runs the new Snapdragon 820, the Nexus 6P is powered by Snapdragon 810, the 820's predecessor. The HTC 10 features 4 GB of RAM while the Nexus 6P has 3 GB.

As for storage, the HTC 10 comes in 32GB and 64GB models while the Nexus 6P comes in storage variants of 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB. The 128GB internal storage option is essential in the case of the Nexus 6P as it doesn't have a microSD card slot. The HTC 10, on the other hand, can support up to 2 TB of microSD external storage.

Both the HTC 10 and the Nexus 6P come with feature-laden high quality cameras. The HTC One has a 12-megapixel main camera and a 5-megapixel front shooter while the Nexus 6P has a 12.3-megapixel main camera and an 8-megapixel front shooter. The HTC 10's cameras feature Optical Image Stabilization (which the Nexus 6P doesn't have) and a dual-LED flash and laser autofocus (both of which the Nexus 6P has).

Both the HTC 10's and the Nexus 6P's displays offer Quad HD resolution, but the Nexus 6P's screen is bigger at 5.7 inches compared to the HTC 10's 5.2 inches.

Both flagship phones run Android Marshmallow OS and both have fingerprint scanners, USB Type-C ports, and front-facing dual speakers.

Prices

The HTC 10 starts at $699 (unlocked) while the Nexus 6P's 128GB model will be offered at $649. The other variants of the 6P will be available at $499 (32GB) and $549 (64GB).

Release dates

The HTC One M10 will be available worldwide in May.

The Nexus 6P is already available for pre-order and will begin shipping in October.
