Huawei GX8 News: Mid-Range Phablet Released In U.S.

Chinese device manufacturer Huawei wants to make a name for itself not only in Asia but more so in the United States. Just recently, Huawei officially released the Huawei GX8 in the United States and it hopes that U.S. consumers will get to know the brand even more. According to a report in Tech Times, Huawei is now the third largest manufacturer of smartphones, after the two big companies, Samsung and Apple. This is a big advantage given how fast-growing the smartphone industry is.

In 2015, Huawei already made waves in the industry, having been chosen by Google to build one of its flagship phones, the Nexus 6P. After this successful partnership, Huawei is now venturing on its own in the U.S. market with the release of the Huawei GX8.

The phone is actually classified as a phablet with its large 5.5-inch screen, which has a Full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Its design is a full metal unibody case made of aluminium.

Under the hood, the phone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor which runs at 1.5 GHz, paired with 2 GB of RAM. Internal storage is at 16 GB only but is expandable via a microSD expansion slot, up to 128 GB.

The phone's camera set-up consists of a 13-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization and autofocus and a 5-megapixel selfie camera, which is good enough for video calls and selfies. A huge 3,000 mAh battery powers the device, and it comes pre-installed with Android 5.1 Lollipop. According to the report, an Android 6.0 Marshmallow update will be arriving for the handset soon. Despite being a mid-range handset, it boasts of a fingerprint scanner found at the device's back.

Currently, the phone is available via Amazon as unlocked handsets selling for $349.99. It is available in three colors: Horizontal Gold, Mystic Champagne and Space Grey.
