Jason Momoa addresses 'Aquaman' fan jokes
Every comic book fan knows that next year is an exciting year for DC as it is extending its cinematic universe with "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" kicking off the summer. This is then followed by the much-awaited "Suicide Squad" later in 2016. As for solo movies, "Wonder Woman" is already gathering the best to get ready filming late this year, while another confirmed character that fans are looking forward to getting more details of would be Aquaman.
According to Screen Rant, Jason Momoa was officially cast as Aquaman last fall, and his character design debuted earlier this year by Zack Snyder, director of Batman v Superman. The image showed a more contemporary version, with a bit of Polynesian influence, of Aquaman compared to its comic counterpart. Many have been quite excited by this and felt that Momoa has the presence to carry the role.
Along with the support, there are also jokes about Momoa's upcoming performance, and the 36-year-old actor responded to these jokes at the recent Fan Expo Canada. Aside from praising the way Aquaman will fit into the DCCU, describing it to be "amazing," he also said that his character may be far from the "chill" superhero everyone hopes, in contrast to the serious Batman and Superman. He is quoted saying, "I can't see me busting out a bunch of jokes. I mean, I don't think it'll be like that."
He was also asked whether he'll be pulling inspiration from his previous roles, to which he made a joke in reference to his take on Khal Drogo on HBO's "Game of Thrones." He shares, "I don't think Aquaman's going to be raping and pillaging any villages." Furthermore, he hopes that once the movie comes out, he will be able to put the fish jokes to rest. He is quoted saying, "You know, it's cute and funny, I mean people make fun of him and there's a bunch of jokes about him. But I'm like 'Well… just wait. Let's just wait a little bit. And then we can make jokes…'"
There aren't much news yet to the plot of the film; however, many suspect that fans will get a glimpse of him soon enough, probably even a cameo on the upcoming Batman v Superman. There is still much time for "Aquaman" to be developed as its release date is not until July 27, 2018.
