Jorge Posada Done With the Yankees?

After the New York Yankees ended their season against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday, Jorge Posada may have to switch baseball caps.

Posada’s four year $52 million contract has expired and no official announcements have been made about his future with the Yankees.

The five time all-star team switch hitter said he was disappointed to watch his team get knocked out of the first round in the post season.

“Losing is tough, period,” Posada said, “and losing at home is even tougher.”

Posada joined the team close to 20 years ago and was part of the championship winning Yankees team along with Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte, and Derrick Jeter. Jeter, the current team captain, said he is unsure about what the future holds for Posada on the team.

“He’s like a brother to me,” Jeter said, according to The Washington Post. “I don’t know what the future holds. It’s not something we’ve talked about.”

In game 5 against the Tigers, Posada was the best player on his team, finishing 6-for-14. Team manager Joe Girardi expressed his pride for the veteran player.

“He was awesome," Girardi said in an emotional way, according to ESPN. "He's had a tremendous career and I'm sure he's going to play, and I don't know what's to happen. What he gave us in the postseason, I don't think there is a prouder moment that I've had of Jorgie."

Brian Cashman, general manager for the Yankees, said he is not prepared to announce Posada’s future with the team just yet.

“I'm not prepared to talk about the winter right now,” Cashman said, according to ESPN.

However, the GM was prepared to speak about the great job the hitter has done with the Yankees.

“He is definitely one of the premiere catchers of this generation," Cashman said. "He is a borderline Hall of Famer and he is one of the best catchers in Yankee history."
