"Major Crimes" Season 5, Episode 11 – Part 1 Recap

Fans learned that Dr. Joe eventually survived. However, others who were present inside the courtroom were also injured by shots from Darnell. Gunshots received by LAPD Assistant Chief Russel Taylor (Robert Gossett) left him dead. Taylor was seen several times within "Major Crimes'" five seasons.

Officer Simms (Greg Collins) and DDA Rosen (Jason Kravits) were also shot dead.

Darnell did not survive as well. He was shot by Sharon (Mary McDonnell) during the onslaught.

As the detectives investigate the incident, they discovered that Darnell's motivation may not have come from his own intentions alone. They are yet to trace where his gun came from.

The team is already looking at a possibility that a conspiracy plan was made before the massive shootout, with Simms or someone who works for the public defender's office as suspects of the incident.

Executive Producer Duff give hints on Episode 11, Part 2

In an interview, "Major Crimes" Executive Producer James Duff reveals the future of Sharon and the rest of the team members after the massive shootout incident. Duff says that Season 5 is all about balance of power. By removing key persons who take most of the space at the top, viewers will learn how those who are left to run the team regains their balance of power.

Duff added that by killing LAPD Assistant Chief Taylor, followers of the series will understand how the system of the law enforcement works in this time and age and how racism has still been very apparent in similar real-life situations. Makers of the series wanted to show the underlying effects of having a big, blue badge in your uniform as well as showing similar cases, risks and possible incidents affecting people who are black.

"Major Crimes" airs every Monday at 10/9c on TNT.
