Memorial Day 2016: Top Quotes and Bible Verses to Remember the Sacrifice of Veterans and Service Members

For Americans, the Memorial Day is celebrated in more ways than one. For starters, it is a day to visit and offer small tokens of gratitude to the graves of the fallen soldiers who paid the ultimate price serving the armed forces of the country.

Traditionally, it has also been a family affair like some holidays in the US. Many American families get together for some barbecue at their homes, or make it a point to watch a Memorial Day parade, whether on TV or in the streets.

And, since the holiday is celebrated on a Monday, some Americans also take the opportunity to take a vacation with loved ones or friends. It has also been a weekend of shopping as businesses also make the most out of the holiday to offer a lot deals and bargains to attract buyers. The long weekend also heralds the unofficial start of the summer season in the country.

But, while the means of celebration vary, Americans are in unison when it comes to why the holiday is a significant part of their calendar. In 1971, Memorial Day was declared a federal holiday in the US to honor the men and women who lost their lives while serving in the military. Below are some of the top quotes and bible verses in line with the celebration of the 2016 Memorial Day.
