Miley Cyrus' Promo for Upcoming 'MTV Unplugged' Gig Gets Mixed Reaction

Miley Cyrus is once again turning heads this time releasing a new promo for "MTV Unplugged," a popular music series known for memorable performances.

Cyrus will take the stage for her acoustic performance after the network revealed late Monday that Cyrus' "Unplugged" episode will air Jan. 29.

"Miley's vision for the performance is like nothing we've ever seen," Amy Doyle, MTV's executive VP of music and talent programming strategy, said in a news release. "I can say that this will easily be one of the most memorable 'Unplugged' performances to date."

The promo ad, posted to the singer's Instagram, account shows the singer topless and looking over her shoulder while sporting fake buckteeth and a blond wig.

"Unplugged" started in 1989 and became one of the networks most popular shows. Artists that gave memorable performances include Nirvana, Mariah Carey, Bob Dylan and Alanis Morissette.

Cyrus most recently courted controversy after performing at the MTV Music Video Awards last year. Cyrus' MTV VMA performance shocked spectators so much that a number of people felt compelled to pray for the singer. During the performance, she stripped down to a nude-colored bikini while gyrating on married R&B singer Robin Thicke, 36.

Thicke's mother, actress Gloria Loring, had a different reaction, one that was based in confusion and not amusement.

"I don't understand what Miley Cyrus is trying to do," the former Days of Our Lives actress told Yahoo OMG! after the show. "I think she's misbegotten in this attempt of hers. And I think it was not beneficial."

Thicke's mother admitted that she had no idea what Cyrus and her son were trying to accomplish when the young singer touched the R&B star inappropriately during a remixed rendition of his song "Blurred Lines."

"I didn't get what her point was," Loring said. "It was so over the top as to almost be a parody of itself."
