According to the Episode Synopsis, Claire takes Manny and Luke along to Alex's academic decathlon for the weekend. Meanwhile, the pressure is on Alex to repeat her championship status. Manny and Luke bar mitzvah hop at the hotel trying to search for a cute girl.
Phil is left home alone. He attempts to throw together a boys' night at the house. He invites a fellow Bulldog alum – played by Matthew Broderick - but there are instantly mixed signals. After Broderick arrives at the Dunphy house, Phil realizes that the only thing they have in common is being a Bulldog.
As Jay and Gloria continue to prepare for the baby's arrival, Cam and Mitch arrange for a surprise baby gift.
In the previous episode "Arrested," Cameron had to watch Alex and Luke while Phil, Claire and Mitchell dealt with Haley's arrest. Jay tried to cut a surprise visit from Dede short, so she doesn't learn about Gloria's pregnancy.
